Do What You Do Best...

... and success follows, naturally.

It may seem the obvious way to achieve personal success, but it is surprising, and quite sad, how few people seem to believe they even have the right to actually do just that.

Maybe that's because so few people actually know what they do best.  After all, we're constantly told that the route to success is through hard work and persistence, and that 'work isn't supposed to be fun, that's why it's called work!'

The truth, unfortunately, is a lot simpler than that. Most people, by the time they start in the world of work, have bought, hook, line and sinker the myth that you have to work hard and practice for years to be really good at something, and that if they did have any talent, it would have shown up by now, and be so obvious, everyone would know.

The problem is that so few people know the real truth about talent that it's easy to believe that it is something that just a very few specially gifted people enjoy.  For the rest of us, it's a matter of working hard to master something so that you can become good.  That way you'll know what you're good at.  Maybe that's why the famous management guru Peter Drucker said,

"Most people think they know what they're good at; they're usually wrong!

They spent years trying to develop skills and acquire knowledge so that they can be good at something, all the while not realising that they probably neglected the things they were really, really good at the instinctive, innate talents that are at the heart of superior performance, and fulfilment, achievement and mastery!

You probably don't know that, as a result of the normal process of brain development in your early childhood, natural, innate talents developed that actually determine just what it is that you do best. (They're pretty well fixed and capable of measurement from about the age of 14).

They're your very own personal and unique set of tools for living the life you were really meant to live. They're the talents that make you uniquely you.  It makes good sense then, (doesn't it?) to make the most of them.  (Successful people do, it's the number one thing that makes them successful).  So should you if you want to live a fulfilling and successful life.

The Careers Edge is all about knowing what your true talents are so that you can know how to use it to create a better life and career. Live a life that fits you, and your talents, not someone else's idea of what your life should be.

Here are just a few ways you benefit from knowing, and using your talent.

  • More satisfaction and fulfilment at work, play and in your home life.
  • Better career choices because you choose opportunities that are made for you.
  • No more guessing or hoping you choose the right career path.
  • You'll get on even better with people because you'll understand them better, and they you.

...because you'll know...

  • What careers make best use of your talent
  • How to use your talent to be more productive and effective; (and successful and noticed!).
  • How to combine your interests with your talent to be even more successful
  • Where you're headed and how you're going to get there.

It's your life, live it to the full, USE your talent.
